Veterans Crisis Line
The Veterans Crisis Line is a confidential hotline (1-800-273-8255 and Press 1), online chat (VeteransCrisisLine.net), and texting service (838255) that connects Veterans, Service Members, and their loved ones to trained VA responders who help them through the crisis and can refer them directly to mental health and other services. The resource is free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. So far, the Veterans Crisis Line has taken more than 814,000 calls and made more than 28,000 lifesaving rescues. VA is working to make sure that all Veterans and their loved ones are aware of the Veterans Crisis Line. To reach as many Veterans as possible, VA is coordinating with communities and partner groups nationwide, including community-based organizations, Veteran Service Organizations, and local health care providers, to let Veterans and their loved ones know that support is available whenever, if ever, they need it.
Homeless Veterans Outreach Initiative
VA is committed to ending Veteran homelessness by 2015. On a single night in January 2012, an annual count of people who are homeless in the United States included nearly 63,000 Veterans. VA is here to help those who served our country get the services they need—and have earned—so they can find and maintain safe, secure homes. In its efforts to end Veteran homelessness, VA has allocated unprecedented resources to provide health care, housing, employment, education, and job training for eligible Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. But VA cannot end Veteran homelessness alone. Individuals and organizations across the country are partnering with VA to promote VA's programs and services to Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Make the Call to 877-4AID-VET or visit www.va.gov/homeless to connect Veterans with the services they have earned and learn more about VA's campaign to end Veteran homelessness.
