Legislation Supported by the National Fraternal Order of Police
- H.R. 180 (Grimm, R-NY), the "National Blue Alert Act," would create a national alert system for law enforcement officers who are missing, killed or seriously injured in the line of duty;
- PASSED H.R. 354 (Poe, R-TX), the "Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Registry (SAFER) Act," will help State and local law enforcement agencies to reduce the laboratory and storage rape kit backlogs;
- H.R. 421 (Reichert, R-WA), the "COPS Improvements and Reauthorization Act," would reauthorize, expand and improve the hiring program administered by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) within the U.S. Department of Justice;
- H.R. 446 (Deutch, D-FL), the "National Criminal Justice Commission Act," would create a National Criminal Justice Commission to study the nation's criminal justices systems;
- H.R. 558 (King, R-NY), the "Fallen Heroes Flag Act," would provide Capitol-flown flags to the immediate family of law enforcement officers and other public safety officers who are killed in the line of duty;
- H.R. 867 (Paulsen, R-MN), the "Metal Theft Prevention Act," would require metal recycling agents to keep records of their transactions in order to deter individuals and enterprises engaged in the theft and interstate sale of stolen metal;
- H.R. 988 (LoBiondo, R-NJ), the "Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act," would reauthorize the Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant program through fiscal year 2017;
- H.R. 1143 (Stockman, R-TX), the "National Criminal Justice Commission Act," would direct the Bureau of Prisons to make secure firearms storage areas accessible to employees at all of its facilities;
- H.R. 1263 (Matsui, D-CA), the "Excellence in Mental Health Act," would establish Federally Qualified Community Behavioral Health Centers and include a requirement for 24 hour mobile crisis intervention teams to provide communities with better resources to help and respond to incidents involving the mentally ill;
- TOP PRIORITY H.R. 1362 (King, R-NY), the "Law Enforcement Officers Equity Act," would provide 6(c) benefits to approximately 30,000 Federal law enforcement officers who currently do not have them;
- H.R. 1470 (Capps, D-CA), the "School Safety Enhancements Act," would reauthorize and expand the Secure Our Schools program administered by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in the U.S. Department of Justice;
- TOP PRIORITY H.R. 1795 (Davis, R-IL), the "Social Security Fairness Act," would repeal both the "Windfall Elimination Provision" and the "Government Pension Offset" in current Social Security law;
- S. 54 (Leahy, D-VT), the "Stop Illegal Trafficking Firearms Act," would revise and expand Federal laws ro combat trafficking in firearms;
- PASSED S. 80 (Cornyn, R-TX), the "Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Registry (SAFER) Act," will help State and local law enforcement agencies to reduce the laboratory and storage rape kit backlogs;
- S. 146 (Boxer, D-CA), the "School Safety Enhancements Act," which would reauthorize and expand the Secure Our Schools program administered by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in the U.S. Department of Justice;
- S. 264 (Klobuchar, D-MN), the "Excellence in Mental Health Act," would establish Federally Qualified Community Behavioral Health Centers and include a requirement for 24 hour mobile crisis intervention teams to provide communities with better resources to help and respond to incidents involving the mentally ill;
- S. 336 (Enzi, R-WY), the "Marketplace Fairness Act," would grant States the authority to collect sales and use taxes from remote sellers;
- S. 357 (Cardin, D-MD), the "National Blue Alert Act," would create a national alert system for law enforcement officers who are missing, killed or seriously injured in the line of duty;
- S. 394 (Klobuchar, D-MN), the "Metal Theft Prevention Act," would require metal recycling agents to keep records of their transactions in order to deter individuals and enterprises engaged in the theft and interstate sale of stolen metal;
- TOP PRIORITY S. 896 (Begich, D-AK), the "Social Security Fairness Act," and the "Government Pension Offset" in current Social Security law;
- Legislation to provide Federal law enforcement officers with a rebuttable presumption that a causal connection exists between their occupation and heart, lung, and hypertension disorders; and
- Legislation which would protect the personal information of law enforcement officers and their families from public access.
